Grilled Garlic Butter Shrimp
The lemon garlic butter sauce is simply perfect! Pair with a glass of wine and crusty bread for the best 30 min meal ever!
Why does grilled food taste better?
Is it because we grew up roasting marshmallows, and then picking off the charred off bits, which were clearly the best parts?
Because that’s exactly what’s happening here.
The charred, smoky, grilled shrimp is just so much better than stovetop shrimp!
Maybe it’s the grill marks. Or maybe it’s the garlicky, lemon butter sauce.
Or maybe it’s the wine or the crusty bread to soak up that garlicky goodness.
I simply don’t know.
Grilled Garlic Butter Shrimp

- 1 shallot, minced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, or more, to taste
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 ½ pounds medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 lemons, halved
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
Instructions
- Melt butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Stir in shallot, garlic and red pepper flakes until fragrant, about 2 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Thread shrimp onto skewers; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Brush with 2 tablespoons butter mixture.
- Preheat grill to medium high heat.
- Add skewers to grill, and cook, turning occasionally, until the shrimp are pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes. Add lemons to grill, cut side down, during the last 2 minutes of cooking time.
- Serve immediately, drizzled with remaining butter mixture, garnished with lemons and parsley, if desired.

Well done. Will try that
That’s all I can say is WOW! I served the shrimp skewers with angle hair aglio et olio which always includes colorful fresh veggies like asparagus or broccoli, cherry tomatoes, yellow pepper and black olives.
I didn’t alter the recipe at all…it was perfect as is.
This was delicious but, man, I wish I had tripled the butter mixture. Would have been so good for us to dip our baguette in!
Stunning meal
Made this for the second time, my husband and I love it. We used to live on Oahu where we enjoyed the shrimp trucks, particularly Giovanni’s (well known among tourists and locals), and their most popular dish was very similar to this! I was trying to recreate their recipe and this is very close! It is delicious! I added a bit more butter, garlic, and shallots because they are so good. I squeezed the lemon juice all over the top as I love lots of lemon. I skipped the pepper flakes, usually I love spice but I thought the garlic and lemon were already the perfect flavor! We served it over rice, I will certainly make this again and again!
This was a quick and easy recipe great for seafood lovers such as myself:) The only thing I did different was I used a 1 whole fresh lemon squeezed rather than lemon juice. It made more of a sauce that I could pour over white rice with the shrimp. My fiance loved it.
Perfect and delicious! Yes, the butter sauce is superb. I think this shrimp recipe is better than Red Lobster’s! My husband loved this! Thank you for this recipe.
This dish was a HUGE hit at my BBQ. My family are foodies and focus on the food (and beverages!) at a party. Everyone, even my college nephews and girlfriends were in love with these kabobs.
They were so easy to make and not even one was left over. In fact, my BFF asked me why I didn’t make more of them! My mom asked me how long I had marinated the shrimp… which I did not do. They were so flavorful prepared as stated in recipe.
Make again for sure.
Compliments to the chef! Thanks for sharing, Danielle. So glad to hear it was a hit!
Great recipe. I skipped the shallot because I don’t have any, I added cherry tomatoes from my garden between the shrimp on the skewers.
Thanks for sharing with us, Eddie!
This was soooo good. I forgot to garnish with parsley but it was still amazing.
I love this recipe! We had friends over for dinner and both couples left asking for the recipe.
That’s lovely, Lyn! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
This was sooo good! We legit wanted to lick the plates! The sauce was delicious…I just wish it didn’t take so long to clean the shrimp lol but it was well worth it…can’t wait to make it again
Isn’t it the best? 🙂
Just made this last night for our family and …..IT WAS A HUGE HIT!! Everyone loved it!! Soooo Good!!!
We love that! Thanks for sharing, Elizabeth! 🙂
Made this in the oven and served with egg noodles. So good!
Your recipe was easy to follow and super easy to grill on my BBQ. I squeezed a lime over them as a baste while cooking and they were wonderful!! Thanks for sharing.
Tasty and easy! I added Old Bay spice after placing shrimp in the sheet pan. Love this website!
I used all the ingredients on the stove (no grill) and even that way, the shrimp were delicious!
That’s great!
To be a food blogger you apparently need infinite patience!! I would quite naturally squeeze those wonderful grilled lemons over the shrimp or in the sauce. Thank you for the recipe that I will make tonight.
nice looking new logo by the way! thank you for this one too, yep grilled shrimp works! I always forget about grilling anything other than beef or chicken so thank you for the reminder!
I made this for lunch today, my wife and I absolutely loved !!!!!!, great recipe and quick too!!!!
So happy to hear it! Thanks for sharing.
Wait, this a recipe for lemon butter shrimp and there’s no lemon juice or zest in the sauce? The lemons are simply a garnish. Something is wrong with this, why not call it garlic butter shrimp to be more accurate?
Kristen, please refer to the title of this recipe. It is titled “garlic butter shrimp” and is served with grilled lemon halves. 🙂
Right you are in the title, but in reading the fine print it talks about a lemon garlic butter sauce that is non existent as far as lemon goes other than as a garnish.
The lemons used as garnish can be squeezed into the sauce or right on top of the shrimp as desired. Let’s please remember that this is a food blog where we get really creative and have fun spreading love through food, and where we’d hope that we don’t have to argue over fine print of the use of lemon juice. We really hope you can enjoy this recipe and make it your own! #spreadkindness
Just wanted to clarify on the use of the lemons. It states to grill them and “garnish” with after grilling. Did you squeeze the grilled lemon juice into the reserved sauce? or just squeeze over the finished shrimp? I’m just curious, because in the description it reads as “a lemon garlic butter sauce”?
I love your recipes and am planning to make this tomorrow night 🙂
You can squeeze the lemon juice right into the sauce or right onto the shrimp – either works!
How much ingredient do I need for 10 lbs of shrimp
Meurene, the recipe calls for 1 1/2 pounds shrimp so you can multiply the ingredients by 6.67. Hope that helps!
This shrimp looks amazing!
