Slow Cooker Spinach and Artichoke Dip
Simply throw everything in the crockpot for the easiest, most effortless spinach and artichoke dip – it doesn’t get easier than that!
Being Korean, we NEVER used a slow cooker when I was growing up. In all honesty, I didn’t even know what it was until I entered the blogging world 3 years ago! But once I discovered this amazing electric pot, my life changed forever. Well, maybe it’s not that dramatic but the slow cooker is pretty darn amazing.
With the help of a slow cooker, you can make almost anything, from this honey sesame chicken to dulce de leche! And now, I’ve discovered that you can also make this incredibly creamy, comforting spinach and artichoke dip so easily. Simply throw everything into the slow cooker, press on, and that’s it! Plus, with the use of the Crock-Pot® Programmable Slow Cooker with iStir™ Stirring System, this baby even stirs itself through self-activation every 30 minutes to ensure thorough mixing and even heating until turned off. I told you – it’s life changing, right?

Ive been making your recipe for years now. its perfect, and i now cannot purchase spinach artichoke dip in restaurants because this recipe is SO much better. the red wine vinegar really helps, as does a good feta. ive found if i dont use good quality feta the recipe doesnt taste right.
I am having a baby shower with many other dips etc. About how many people wouldthis receipe serve?
So easy to make and the best we’ve had!
This turned out delicious and made so much dip we served it on Christmas Eve and again the next day.
I bought all the ingredients and then realized my slow cooker would be occupied so I adapted by sautéing the onion and garlic in a pan first and then baked the dip for about 45 minutes (It was chilled) at 350 and then I threw some mozzarella on top and stuck it under the broiler for 3 minutes.Â
Do you leave in crock pot on low or put in a dish?
I would love to make this dip and maybe throw some crab meat in there 🙂
This sounds yummy! Can I use frozen artichoke hearts instead ?
Does it matter what size crock pot we use?
I made this for an office party, and it was a huge hit! One question – I used jarred artichokes that didn’t have any salt, and did need to add a bit of salt at the end. For those of you who have made it, did you use artichokes with salt or without? I’m planning to make it again for a school potluck next week.
If I’m using my insta pot how would I cook it?Â
Thanks SharonÂ
Here is our Instant Pot version. 🙂
https://damndelicious.net/2019/05/20/instant-pot-spinach-and-artichoke-dip/
I’ve made this twice and it’s SO good!!!
Thanks for sharing!
Excellent!!
I’ve made this twice and it’s a great dip and doubles (or triples in my case) well. Although use slightly less artichoke if you double or triple. I made this at my in laws Christmas in 2014 and it was a hit. Making it again for the same crowd tonight! Works well with baguettes or tortilla chips.Â
I make this exact recipe so much I know it by heart. Love the flavor!
This is my favorite recipe! Got an idea for a oven conversion when short on time?Â
What a great idea! But unfortunately, without having tried this myself, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment when making substitutions and modifications.
Is dip served hot?
Yes.
I’ve made this a few times- very tasty and always a hit!!Â
I use the leftover spinach artichoke dip in omletes the next morning with crumbled bacon and fresh chopped tomatoes as garnish. Yum-o!
That sounds AMAZING!
If there are leftovers, do you think they would freeze well to be thawed out for a future party??
Thanks!
Unfortunately, we cannot answer this with certainty as we have never tried freezing this ourselves. Please use your best judgment for freezing and reheating.
Looks like a wonderful appetizer! Love how you added the artichoke. Have a wonderful Christmas (:
Don’t have a slow cooker what else Can I use?? A Dutch oven..
This recipe is specifically tailored to be made in the slow cooker – sorry, Marylin.
You can pick up a small crock pot at walmart for 10.00. You will love cooking with it!
Where in the world did you find a slow cooker that stirs?
You can find one on Amazon.com.
I purchased a bag of fresh spinach (9oz.) instead of the frozen, can you use it in this dip recipe?
Will it change the consistency?
Thank you,
Tami
Yes, you can certainly substitute fresh spinach – the consistency will vary a bit though!
I have 3 Crock-pots in graduated sizes (anyone remember Harvest Gold and Orange?) I’d kill for the self-stirring feature (well maybe bruise a bit). Is it possible to get the stirrer separately? – I want Spinach Artichoke Dip!!
Hi! I love so many of your recipes! Is there a replacement for the feta cheese? We aren’t fond of it at our house. Thx for your reply.
Queso fresco would be a great substitute!
What kind or artichoke hearts – in brine or in water?
Thank you for this recipe – I don’t want to make it wrong and mess it up 😉
Either should work.
Can I assemble all the ingredients and bake it in the oven ?
Yes, of course.
Wow ! Awesome !
This is a great recipe! I knew I would like it, but what was most surprising is the kids loved it – I finally found something with vegetables they would actually eat. lol
I’ve made this several times now I’m coming back just to leave a comment. This is the best spinach artichoke dip I have ever had and my guests all agree!!!!!  My 12-year-old nephew made a meal out of it at our last party, I didn’t change a thing it is perfection, thank you!
I wouldn’t have thought you could make dip in a slow cooker. I will definitely give this a try!
This dip is amazing! Â I’ve made it twice now and can’t get enough. Â Love the tartness that the Feta and vinegar add to the taste. Â It’s subtle and delicious.
Thank you for this recipe, it was delicious! I substituted plain Greek yogurt for the sour cream and I omitted the onions. It was a hit!
I will make my white bean chili and most definitely the artichoke dip!
On the rare occasion when we have leftovers of this dip we stuff fresh mushrooms with it. Makes great stuffed mushrooms. Bake as you would your stuffed mushrooms. Great veggie dinner when you stuff the left overs in a big portabella mushroom. Sprinkle some additional parm and breadcrumbs. I have made this several times and always a huge hit.
I make this at least every other week. It’s the ONLY thing my 2 year old LOVES to eat! She’ll eat the left overs for days! Thanks 🙂
I’ve made this about 8 times for various occasions since discovering it on your blog. Everyone loves it and it’s always in high demand. I add extra garlic, because I do that to everything, and fresh basil when I have it on hand.
Well, slow cooker? do we have to use that?
i can prepare the others but slow cooker. hrmp. that is not in my house.
anyway it also looks nice. spinach. hmm. most one of my favorite veggies HAHA
I just wanted to say, I made this over the weekend for some friends I had over. It was a big hit!! So easy to put together, we used the baguette and tortilla chips. Thank you for this great recipe.
One more question…Could I use almond milk instead?
Yes, almond milk should work just fine.
Would it be possible to double this? Could I also bake it in the oven instead?
Yes, this can certainly be doubled. But without further recipe testing, I cannot advise on how to adapt this recipe without a slow cooker. However, here is an article worth checking out on a possible conversion guide from Williams-Sonoma: http://blog.williams-sonoma.com/slow-cooker-vs-dutch-oven-a-conversion-guide/.
Can another green leafy vegetable replace spinach….could you please suggest one?
Kale would be a great substitute!
forgot to ask if I could put in fridg on a Friday for a Saturday party, and then worm up?
Yes, absolutely.
it came out with too much liquid will that change over night or should I put it in the oven with bread crumbs on top
it thickened and it tastes very good
I am so glad to hear that!
Ydelle, the recipe does not call for breadcrumbs. Did you thaw and squeeze out the frozen spinach completely as directed in the recipe?
I don’t have to do anything with it and no crumbs. and used fresh spinach.
sorry about the wrong email
can you substitute Greek yogurt for mayo and sour cream? or lower fat versions of the two.
Yes, that should work just fine.
Any suggestions for mayo substitute? I hate it and never keep it in the house.
Sour cream or Greek yogurt would be great substitutes.
I made this recipe for my girls birthday party and it was a hit! The flavors blend so well together and it was delicious! I served it with fresh bread and tortilla chips. Definitely a party must have!
I’m a beginner cook getting myself acquainted to the kitchen and I just tried your spinach artichoke recipe, Amazing!
Your pictures looked so good and I was starving so I used the stove to cook the dip faster. Also, I’m not a fan of feta (and there was none in the fridge) so I substituted it with monterey jack cheese instead and it turned out great. Thank you for the recipe and picture details, it really helps!
This is truly delicious! I made this for my family and they loved it! Definitely making more in the future!
I added your fabulous recipe to my article:

Usually I make Chile Verde, or Texas Chile. I do need to try this spinach artichoke. It really sounds yummy. I love Crockpot cooking. Thank you .
I’m not a fan of feta cheese, do you think it would work with mozzarella instead?
Brenda, goat cheese would be a more appropriate substitute if you are not a fan of feta.
I love this recipe!! This is my second time making it and I goofed and stirred the cream cheese into the mixture before I started the slow cooker. Is that going to mess it up??!
Can we dip it with chips? or the pretzel things like the flat pretzels
Of course!
I am a beginner cook and I made your spinach and artichoke crockpot recipe. It was super easy to make. I even got brave and replaced the mayo w greek yogurt. It turned out super yummy!!! It was a hit at our family get together. Thank you so much!!
I made 2 servings of this for a work Christmas party; those heathens ate it all within an hour! Can’t say I blame anyone as it was damn delicious when I made it again (and actually had a chance to eat some) on Christmas Eve at the in laws.
do you think if i were to make it the day before i want to serve it, i can just heat it up the next day in the microwave or oven?
Kari, we’ve had the leftovers the next day and reheated it in the microwave. It wasn’t as good as the first day but we still loved it!
Love to make this spinach dip. What could I sub for the feta?
Goat cheese would be a great substitute.
After trying this delicious spinach dip, I’d do a thick hearty minestrone.
this dip looks amazing!! Can’t wait to try it, any suggestions on replacing the mayo with something else? Maybe plain yogurt?
Greek yogurt would be a great substitute. You’ll also save on a ton of calories!
Thanks! 🙂
I made for Thanksgiving as well and it definitely was a hit! Doubled the recipe, crock pot was chock full, cranked it on high to get the rich, creamy ingredients to start cooking and then turned down. 2 hours plus later a delicious dish was ready to be devoured by all.
We made this for a Thanksgiving appetizer. Followed the recipe exactly except we used fresh baby spinach. We also used a blender (before slow cooking) to make it into a creamy dip instead of a chunky one. It worked great on bread and pita chips. Big hit.
Made it for Thanksgiving and it was a hit!
Just made this dip. It was super easy. Tasted pretty good even before it cooked! I love the idea of it being crock pot recipe!
Pingback: Mediterranean Tabbouleh Hummus Dip - Joanne Eats Well With Others
This was the talk of my house warming party! Incredibly delicious!
If i wanted to double this recipe, how long do you think it would need to cook for? Looks delicious! 🙂
You can start by increasing cooking time by 30 min or so and work from there.

Hi, I wanted to let you know I made this to have with our Easter dinner yesterday and it was really delicious 🙂 I used a regular crock pot, and ended up having to cook it on high since 2 hours on low wasn’t enough. Thanks for the recipe, it’s great to have something like this that doesn’t need the oven.

Wow! A slow cooker that stirs. That’s awesome. What wouldn’t I make in this. Now that I work I have been using a slow cooker even more. I would use it for dips and soups and everything in between. This dip recipe looks amazing too. I can’t wait to do this for my sister’s baby shower.

I’ve been craving chili so that’s what I would make first.
I would try this dip! I think a self stirring slow cooker is an awesome idea! Slow cooker meals are some of my favorite because of the extra free time at the end of the day.

Awesome! I did not know there was a self-stirring slow-cooker. Drinks, dips, stews and so much more could be made. I would so start with this dip but then experimenting would be so awesome to do. Thanks for the opportunity.
Might try that fantastic dip!!! Looks delicious.
What an awesome slow cooker!! First think I’d make is beef stew.

https://damndelicious.net/2012/11/09/slow-cooker-pork-ragu/
We used our original Crock Pot for over 30 years. Just sold it on a yard sale – still works great – with plans to buy a larger one. Had no idea there is now a stirring Crock Pot….sounds wonderful! No more lifting the lid to stir and letting out the heat. If I won, I’d make this dip! I can’t stand mayonnaise, do you think it would work to just add more sour cream or cream cheese?
Lindsay, you can barely taste the mayonnaise in this dip. It’s merely providing texture and a little bit of flavor.
I’ve never made spinach artichoke dip in a crock pot, so I would make this recipe first!
Chicken noodle soup!

Oy vey!!! Such a loaded question…but, if you must tie me down to just one recipe, it’d be Crock Pot Slow Cooker Ribs. The stirring motion would keep the short ribs moving and not let them stick to the pot.

If I won, I would try this spinach and artichoke dip!
I would make chex mix. The crock pot is easier than the oven, but I keep forgetting to stir.

I think the first thing I’d make would be the Spinach and Artichoke Dip, one of my favorites.
I would make the spinach and artichoke dip!
I love the idea of adding feta to the artichoke dip. This would be the first recipe I’d try in the crock pot. thanks for the giveaway.
Making any hot dip I can!! Oh, yes, yummy in my tummy!
I would make your Slow Cooker Spinach and Artichoke Dip – it’s one of our favorites!
My daughter made it for her sisters bridal shower. It was a hit. Everyone wanted recipe!! Will make a batch for ailing mother- in- law for super bowl!
I love a crock pot and I would make smoke gouda soup with caramelized onions and bacon!
Your Smoked Gouda soup sounds amazing! Would you consider sharing the recipe? My email is [email protected], thanks. And thank you Chungah for the Spinach Artichoke Dip Recipe, I can’t wait to try it!
I’ve been dying to make your slow cooker honey sesame chicken!
I would make chili!
I would love to make your Spinach and Artichoke recipe.
I would try this dip!
Haha, whyyy does it not come as any surprise that there was parmesan in this recipe, I wonder? Tsk tsk!
Looks amazing though! And using the slow-cooker for dips is something I have never thought about before! I can imagine the flavours merge together even better than with just simmering over the hob. Great stuff! I have only ever used artichokes once (in a pea- and artichoke spread no less!) before and it gave this really nice, creamy texture!
Ah, the weekend is just around the corner, perfect for dipping 😛 x
What would I make?.. 7 meals the first week… then at least 1 meal per week after that. That 1 meal a week would actually end up being two. Thankfully my hubby doesn’t mind leftovers, especially since I tend to put a twist on the leftover so it is not exactly the same as the original meal.
Thanks for all the yummy recipes and the stories that go with them.
I would make pot roast for hubby and this dip for our good friend who LOVES spinach artichoke dip!
I would have to make the artichoke and spinach dip…what a great idea for a slow cooker to have!!
Just tweeted about this. Dang girl. You outdid yourself!! I love spin/arti dip and just made some this weekend! I told you about that though already. How SMART to do it in the slow cooker. Love the moody wood boards!
Oh my gosh will you please coin this?! Spinarti Dip. Seriously. Genius.
I would definitely make this dip with the crockpot ! I would also make pulled mork for pulled pork sandwiches! 🙂
Mmmmm pulled mork
I love this recipe!! This is my second time making it and I goofed and stirred the cream cheese into the mixture before I started the slow cooker. Is that going to mess it up??!
I would make chili 🙂
